Athens veeeeeeeeeery cold

Question

3 winters I was there in the past 8 years, all of them were snowy. I kind not get it as for example in Rome (where my brother lives) it snows every 25 years or more, should not those two cities have a similar weather?

It does not snow that often in Athens as well. OK it gets very cold due to the high humidity but it's nothing like the Northern cities of Greece. In general these capitals have similar weather. I am not sure that the situation will remain as it was in Athens, especially because almost all the surrounding forests are burned down ( sad but true).
