  1. For those of you holding the title of athiest or agnostic....I thought you might find this interesting

    Atheism...what does it really mean

Theism-religion, but more generally Spirituality, or the "Sacred" world in relation to the real or "Profane" world.

the "A" in the front means "without"

An atheist, in this definition is a person who is without spiritual being.

but is this the appropriate label?

As we have discovered the atom, then learned how to split the thing, it unleashed more questions about life. Science had this Atom thing figured out in the early 20th century, but in doing so, has found that the theory of general relativity doesn't work on the Atomic level.

The Hindu's BTW have had the concept of the Atom for thousands of years without physically seeing it.

SO...even at this atomic level, in the realm of quantum physics, there are still unansweable questions.

We can say we evolved due to a set of random circumstances, that there was no intelligent design. Okay.

We can say that (for instance) our brain chemistry is altered with every emotion, and our emotions are just a reaction to external influence, and that thoughts are just electric relays in the brain.

This just leads to more questions.

The Big one is Love...what is it? you cant touch it, see it, hear it, taste it, or smell it. You can only express it using your senses.

real Love is a constant...it's there no matter what happens in life.

Love is a constant along the axis of change.

An interesting Meditation: Would you still "Love" you significant other if they mad significant changes in their lifestyle/physical appearance/drug habits?

Love is one thing that cannot be explained scientifically, it's intangible and doesnt exist in the physical "Profane" world, yet one can't deny that it is existing somehow?

A true atheist would have to, By defenition, not believe in the existence of love.

Because God is truly Love we can see directly from the above example that if you Love something or someone you can not be athiest.

To become a Christian you must know that Jesus died on that cross for our sins and believe while you repent and turn away from the sins in your life.

  2. Nice hat.  I'm not in to convincing anyone...I'm more of the type just to argue against arrogant people (most of the time atheists but occasionally a believer).  So sorry, no help here...except that it seems like you really don't care which side you are on...you just want to be on the side that others think is right...never a good idea to just be a follower.

  3. If you are serious try doing this:  Go into your room, and shut the door pray to God in private.  Say Dear Lord I am lost am seeking you to come into my life I believe Jesus was born and died so that I may be saved and I am asking now for forgiveness in his name.  I also ask for you to make yourself real to me and overwhelm me with your love and guidance, because I  need you father.  In Jesus name I ask, amen.

If you really want to know God, he is the only one that can give you the answers you truly seek.  He knows you better than anyone and even knows the count of every strand of hair on your head...so when you are ready he will be there he is with you where ever you go.

  4. It is not a matter of a contest ..that is making a mockery of God. You must decide by what your heart tells you to be true not as an ultimatum. I find it interesting that you capitalize one faith system and not the other. Is this perhaps a Freudian slip or actually intentional

  5. the key question here: do you believe in god/jesus?

    If yes, christian

    if no, athiest

    if maybe, agnostic

Of course, if you want proof...

i personally am agnostic in regards to god and jesus, although leaning more towards athiest. The way I see it, there is no evidence that god does exist. Any so-called evidence is nearly always instantly shot down (read 'The God Delusion; if you don't believe me-that guy disproves more 'evidence' than i thought existed). However, as God is by nature spiritual, it is naturally quite difiicult to disprove his existance. Some people say that God must have created the Big bang etc as nobody knows how that was created, but in reality it is not a good idea to say that, if something is mysterious, that 'God did it' (and anyway, who created god).

In summary, all of nature can function without a god, and there is no actual evidence for a god, but technically you can't disprove his existance. Then look at the questions above.

  6. Being a Christian helps you to be a good person by giving simple guidelines of how to live eg Love you neighbour.

If you are looking for proof and reason you seem to have already chosen atheism. That is an atheists chosen vocabulary.

Faith is what you need to be a christain not logic. Decide yourself.

  7. I'm Christian and I'm just gonna tell it how it is.

there is no proof that there is a God to those who don't believe, and there is no proof that there isn't one.

Christianity is a faith. That means you believe in it without needing facts and explanations. because you aren't going to get them unless you DO believe. that's the point when they say "having FAITH in God."

  8. there is no proof man,

alot of people will try to prove you things on both sides of this argument but you need faith in any religion to truly be a *insert religion here*

or not have faith and believe what is in front of you and proven with science not written in old books and such

    have fun budday!

  9. You will never find absolute proof.  It's not a problem with a lack of evidence it's a problem of what constitutes proof.  Answer this question, What in your mind would cause one or the other to be proved?

As far as reason... Everyone looks for something outside themselves for the answers.  This very question you posted shown a desire for an external answer for life, existence, and reason.  If we find something we tend to be theists, and if we don't we're atheists.  I have found that there is something, and that those who havn't found it either don't want to or just gave up.

  10. Why follow a set religion/anti-religion? All religions are probably completely wrong to be honest, and stem from the fear of death. Why believe something just because it's written down or someone tells you to?

  11. If you are looking for someone to tell you what to think, then no matter which path you choose, you will be a fool for choosing it.

  12. You should become... a Jedi!

    http://www.jedichurch.com/

There is nothing cooler...  Better than some old stuffy book there are a total of 6 live action movies, animated movies, and many novels about it.

The Jedi Church believes that there is one all powerful force that binds all things in the universe together. The Jedi religion is something innate inside everone of us, the Jedi Church believes that our sense of morailty is innate. So listen to the force within you and beware of the dark side!

  13. Since you mentioned proof and reason, Atheism is the way to go.

There is absolutely no evidence for God's existence. Remember that.

  14. The Atheists will always win what you describe.  If you need proof, you're already on that side of the fence.  Open your heart and you might feel G-d's love.  Only you can decide how you feel and what you believe.  If anyone has to tell you what to think, you're a slave.

  15. I am not sure I want or need you, I'd like to see your resume first.

  16. First off I am an atheist. I am not going to try and make you an atheist, because we don't "convert" people. My guess is, you believe in god, but you don't believe in the story of genesis, but instead evolution and a 4.5 billion year old earth. Guess what, you can believe in both, people called Theistic Evolutionists believe that God made the big bang and started life which evolved. Theistic Evolutionists can be jewish, muslim, hindu, or even christian. In fact you can look up Ken Miller, a famous evolutionary biologist. He is a christian.

I will tell you one thing. Genesis is not a literal story. The world is not 6000 years old, and evolution is happening. But just because that is true, that doesn't mean god doesn't exist. I you feel like christianity makes sense, become a christian who believes in theistic evolution.  (Most catholics are theistic evolutionists, most evangelicals are creationists, and protestants are divided.)

  17. You seriously *want* to be sheep and just do whatever anyone tells you? Just continue to learn everyday.Think outside the box. Gather information and make conclusions. If I asked you to believe in Santa or the toothfairy....even if I told you I've seen the "real thing"....would you?? Start with this question and maybe you'll start reasoning and finding proof on your own.

  18. Hold on there zeus... I would love to see proof from an atheist that there is no God.

God is our Creator, Savior, and King. Without Him we are nothing, and life becomes pointless. Nothing could have come into existence without Him.

Do you really think some atoms made a bang an entire universe appeared? Who created the atoms?

If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?

Whoever has the most proof and reasonable answer will convert you? Convert you from what? You are trusting humans to decide your fate?

  19. My mother had a near death experience once. She was giving birth to my little brother and she had had heart problems. She died for two minutes and remembered hearing music.Like a tinkling water noise.Everything went silent and she could feel her body lifting. She felt herself lift to the ceiling. She looked down, and there were doctors rushing around and trying to pump my mom back to life. Then she felt herself slowly go down until she was back in her body.Thats when her eyes poped open and they took my mother inro a surgery room or whatever. She and my brother both lived.

  20. You don't know me, do I exist-prove it! All these godless idiots out there would love for you to take up the defeatest stance by simply claiming there is'nt anything .That's too easy & won't work in real life. You have to beleive in something greater than yourself or you will undoubaly fail . You decide & search your heart YOU'LL find the answer there. There are a lot of unanswered questions , but that doesn't mean that it isn't true if it can't be explained. Science is mostly based on theory yet most people accept it as fact.I  guess a little faith , hope & love are required to answer you question.

  21. There is proof all around, the most visible is our sun and moon. From our view they appear to be the same size even though one is much bigger and farther away. Yes it is an optical illusion but a beautiful example of GOD's majesty. But the atheist will say it’s just a coincidence, but then the big bang and evolution theories rely mainly on coincidence. Praise the LORD.

  22. I don't wish to convert you to anything. Continue to look for the truth, even after you think you've found it. You might be wrong, after all.

Christians used to have lots of proof of God's existence. "God is what makes the sun come up each day, God strikes sinners down with lightning bolts. God decides when parents can have children."

None of these proofs actually work. Nowadays, we know that if God is doing those things, he does it exactly the same way as if He didn't exist and only natural law applied. If He did it differently, then that would be proof that He exists.

If God did exist, then it would be easy to prove He did. Christians who had arms amputated could pray and have them miraculously restored. Floods wouldn't happen in areas with many Christians, nor earthquakes, nor tornados, nor famines. Christian students would all pass their exams.

Christians have long admitted that without faith, Christianity sounds crazy. It sure is hard to believe that a God powerful enough to create life from dust, comets and galaxies and supernovas is petty enough to worry about your sexual fantasies.

The Bible promises that whatever you ask in His name will be granted to you. But this does not happen. You'll never find a Christian who prayed that God wouldn't let them die who had their prayer answered. Not one orn before the 1900's anyway.

.Jesus promised to return in the first Century, but it didn't happen.

The creation account in Genesis is contradicted by every part of modern Science, from Cosmology, physics, geology, biology, genetics, astronomy and relativity. If the Literal Bible version of Christianity were true, then the only way to reconcile the contradiction between the evidence and the Bible is to assume that God created the world with the appearane of age. But no church holds that God is a deceiver.

The biblical accounts are so contradictory that nobody has ever been able to write a single story that includes everything in the Gospels. For example john has the cleansing of the temple occur just after Jesus first miracle, while the other Gospel writers have it happen just before the crucifiction. perhaps He did it twice, but none of the Gospel writers say that!

The evidence of 'feelings' and 'what good people tell me', and 'what my holy book says' is sufficient for hindus, Moslems, Fundamentalists and Wiccans to all come to different conclusions. People can easily fool themselves. But none of these religions are able to provide external evidence of their beliefs of the sort needed to persuade one that the earth is a sphere.

So, pending better evidence, I am of the opinion that the Atheists are in the right.

Don't choose what to believe. Choose what you judge to be right. Change your judgement if evidence arises that persuades you otherwise. Go for what's true because of evidence, not because you decide you'll believe something no matter what. Blind faith convinces people of every different religion that they are right. In non-religious matters Blind Faith is the one sure way to be wrong about whatever you hold an opinion about.

  23. Logically the Universe was created for 2 reasons. Scientists have discovered that the Universe is not eternal but began around 14 billion years ago in the Big Bang. Since the Universe had a beginning, there must have been a first cause which exists above time and space and must have always existed. Even if the Universe was to come about on it's own, something which comes about by accident is often in chaos, but our universe is very complex and well organized. Plus, if just 1 of the 70 physical constants were stronger or weaker by less than 1 in 10 to the power of 50, life would not exist. Evolutionists have actually estimated that the chances of life appearing on earth are 1 in 10 to the power of 2 Billion.

Some atheists try to explain fine-tuning through the theory of multiple universes, however there is no evidence to support this theory and would require a cosmic generator which must be itself finely tuned for life to exist. Because it would require the constants to be perfectly spread out, and the constants themselves must be the result of fine-tuning.

I encourage that you read the Bible (especially the New Testament) so that you know how to get saved through Jesus, and why you need to be saved through Jesus.

  24. you cant just decide like that

you have to believe in what God does, in everything

you cant just pick and chose

you can chose to follow God but if you do be prepared to do everything for him

that would be a christians answer

these are the noble words of my good friend Sian

  25. There is no more proof of god(s) than leprechauns. If a lack of evidence is a proper reason to reject belief in the latter, than a lack of evidence is a proper reason to reject belief in the former.

  26. Just ask the atheists to explain the evolution of man to you. That should convince you that there had to be a creator.  Things can't evolve from nothing......something had to be created at some point in time.

Neither side has any proof.  That won't help.

Jesus can offer you eternal life in heaven.....what can belief in nothing offer you?

I'm a Christian.  If I'm wrong, I'll never know it because I'll be dead.

If atheists are wrong, I guarantee they will wish they had believed in God.

Why would you risk eternal life for pride?

  27. Both sides will tell you that there is no proof for or against the existence of a god. However if you think it through logically you will come to the conclusion that a god does not exist.

  28. I'm curious of what your definition of "proof" might be. A reasonable answer seems self explanatory, however when it comes to proof, there is evidence to support both views. Whether or not you find this "evidence" as "proof" is a matter of opinion.

  29. No one can tell you what to believe.  You need to "feel" your beliefs.  I would suggest you read lots of material about lots of beliefs and see where that leads you.

You could also try some of the quizzes on beliefnet.com to see if they could help you put your existing beliefs into a more structured framework.

  30. Firstly, it's spelled 'atheist', e before i and no capital on the 'a'.

Secondly, since there is not a shred of proof for ANY deity existing, atheism is the more logical position. If you prefer to work on faith rather than proof, then go for Christianity, or another religion. Simple.

  31. The only reasonable answer is that there is NO proof in any direction - whether it be for one god, many gods, or no gods at all.

If you don't know what to believe, then search - do some research.  Look into a whole lot of different beliefs and then make up your OWN mind without others influencing you based on how they believe.

    Good luck.
