  1. most professional athletes in the US make less than 100k per year.  for every A-Rod, there are dozens of TEAMS that have a payroll of less than 100k.

but a contract usually isn't paid all up-front.  that's why they have signing bonuses (to be able to buy a house in a new city, etc.).

  2. 1.  25/3    about 8 million per year.

    2. it varies.  football players make 500k to 7 million per year......baseball players make 300k-5 million per year.............professional wrestlers typically make 80k/year but the big stars make 500k/year.

  3. If it's a 3 year contract, they play for 3 years.  They don't get paid the whole 25MM in the 3 years, they don't want it.  The IRS would clean them out.  A lot of it is an annuity from an insurance company that the team buys for them that pays out over a lot of years, maybe their lifetime.  Example: OJ.  He's playing golf and living a high life in Florida, even with a huge judgment against him because, under Florida law, his deferred compensation from his football days is considered a "pension", which can't be taken to satisfy a judgment.
