Athletes gear up for World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge - Athletics news
Athletics is perhaps among the sports that have largest number of disciplines under its umbrella, all of which, as a matter of fact, are not only aimed at inspiring spectators to indulge into healthy activities, but also to provide them with quality entertainment.
An interesting point about athletics is that in result of minor changes introduced to any of its disciplines, not only the element of entertainment carried by it is significantly increased, but also the sport ends up earning more fans and spectators around
the globe. One such discipline, which is becoming increasingly popular among both, athletes and observers is the World Long Distance Mounting Running Challenge, which is going to take place on June 18, in Slovenian city Podbrdo.
This year, this will be the eighth edition of the event, which is expected to gather a strong field for a track stretched upon a distance of 38kms. The distance will also comprise of 2500m of uphill and 2800m downhill swathes.
Introducing a new tradition of the event in order to help out athletes to clock faster times instead of keeping it completely uphill, the track for the event is surprisingly descending. The event, which had been organised in Kamnik last year, will kick-off
on the mountains of Podbdrdo this year.
However, since this discipline of athletes is still rather new, there would not be many participants appearing in it. About five hundred athletes, hailing from 18 different countries, have been allowed to appear in the entertaining and nerve testing event.
Since the participants of the event will encounter each other in teams, the organisers of the event have assembled 12 teams for male participants, while it has put together seven teams for female athletes.
Interestingly, in order to make the event a success, the local congress committee of Slovenia is also taking full interest in the preparations for the contest and is extending their full support in not only making the necessary arrangements, but also in
facilitating the athletes who have arrived for the run.
