Athletes have Superior Immune Systems, Exercise beats Cancer
There is a known relationship between disease prevention and exercise. Athletes are some of the best people on the planet at being able to fight off disease. There are so many examples of athletes who have fought back from severe diseases and won the battle. Examples such as Lance Armstrong and Martina Navratilova, who have beaten cancer, abound in the world of professional sports. It seems being fit and healthy can actually help people to fight diseases better than those who are unhealthy. Athletes being the fittest people on the planet have a natural advantage over the rest of the population.
There are a large number of sources and articles which show us the health benefits of exercise on a person’s body which helps them fight off disease. It seems that exercise and staying healthy while getting treatment is one of the most effective ways to beat cancer. In an interview, Martina
Navratilova, a breast cancer survivor, said that she exercised regularly while getting chemotherapy and it helped the medicine spread throughout her body and the medicine was much more effective. There are other reasons why people take up exercise while recovering from cancer or trying to fight it. A Beat Cancer Boot Camp has been set up which has the aim of beating cancer through vigorous exercise. There have been studies conducted which show that exercise can help to relieve some of the symptoms of cancer treatment such as nausea and fatigue as well as making the medicine more effective. This is probably what helped Lance Armstrong fight his cancer which had spread all the way to his lungs and brain.
The average athlete tends to live longer than the normal person for a number of factors. Firstly their bodies are kept in much better shape than regular people. Secondly athletes concentrate on their diets and make sure they eat the right types of food, while also consuming the right amount of dietary supplements like vitamins. They also know the benefits of rest on their bodies and get proper amounts of sleep and rest. Finally they live clean lives; they do not take drugs, well most of them do not take drugs, and they do not smoke. If everyone followed this regime, life expectancy would go up and we would all be healthier as well.
It seems that vigorous exercise is good at fighting heart disease and also Alzheimer's disease. The fight against heart disease is understandable because athletes tend to have hearts that are much healthier than the common person and their hearts are able to pump more blood around their bodies. Studies have shown that the more blood that is pumped into areas that are affected by disease heal better and by having a healthy heart that is able to pump blood to these areas is an advantage in this regard. Another aspect of exercise fighting disease is in the battle against Alzheimer’s disease. Because exercise helps to stimulate brain cells, professional athletes tend to stop their brains from shrinking which is a leading cause of the disease. It has been proven that exercise helps to stimulate mental activity as well as make people physically healthy.
We constantly hear about professional athletes getting injured while on the playing field, but it is rare to hear about an athlete who gets a disease and was suddenly killed by it. Athletes usually do not die from malaria, pneumonia, infections and their bones rarely break.  Professional athletes tend to heal a lot faster than normal people from these types of diseases. Their teams of doctors and professionally trained staff help, but their bodies are so in tune that they bounce back a lot faster from diseases.
We should all take a page out of top athlete’s books and try to achieve higher levels of fitness for ourselves. Maybe we too can fend of diseases and recover from life threatening ones just as elite athletes do.
