Athletes impress on day one of Paris Open 2011 – Swimming news
Several impressive performances took place on day one of the 2011 Paris Open, including Men’s 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 100m back-stroke, Women’s 50m back-stroke, 800m freestyle and 200m freestyle events in Paris, France, on June 26.
Initially, Cesar Cielo won the Men’s 50m butterfly race with a sterling time of 22.98 seconds and moved into the top place in the world rankings. Placed second in the respective meet was Brazilian swimmer, Nicholas Santos with a time of 23.20 seconds for
his 2nd and Steffen Deibler of Germany settled third in 23.42 seconds for his 5th spot in the world rankings.
Additionally, he won the Men’s 100m freestyle crown with a victorious time of 48.26 seconds. Grabbing second spot in the following meet was French swimmer, Fabien Gilot with a time of 48.85 seconds, while Andrei Grechin of Russia wound up third in a time
of 49.02 seconds. Nathan Adrian surprisingly finished fourth in 49.0 seconds.
Matt Grevers of USA earned first place honours in the Men’s 100m back-stroke event with a time of 53.35 seconds. Camille Lacourt retains the number one spot in the current year’s rankings of the corresponding meet with a sterling time of 52.44 seconds, while
Ryosuke Irie maintains second position in 53.10 seconds. Finishing second in the Men’s 100m back-stroke race was Lacourt with a time of 53.52, whereas, Jeremy Stravius wound up third in a time of 54.13 seconds.
Afterwards, Sophie Edington won the Women’s 50m back-stroke race with a sterling time of 28.01 seconds and jumped into 5th place in the world rankings. Jenny Mensing of Germany wound up second in 28.31 seconds for her 12th spot and
Simona Baumrtova of Czech Republic finished third in a time of 28.88 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Women’s 800m freestyle crown was taken over by Spanish swimmer, Erika Villaecija-Garcia with a winning time of 8 minutes and 30.85 seconds and moved into 16th spot in the international swimming rankings of the current year.
Snaring silver in the 800m freestyle was Melanie Costa of Spain with a time of 8 minutes and 32.92 seconds, whereas, Camelia Potec of Romania wound up third in 8 minutes and 33.30 seconds.
Last, but not the least, Camille Muffat of France took home the Women’s 200m freestyle crown with a time of 1 minute and 56.14 seconds. Earlier, she set a record time of 1 minute and 55.95 seconds in March. Silke Lippok of Germany earned second place honours
in the following meet with a time of 1 minute and 57.85 seconds, while Coralie Balmy of France wound up third in a time of 1 minute and 58.22 seconds.
