Athlete’s sense of facial hair grooming gone wrong: Drew Gooden, Rollie Fingers, Alexi Lalas
When it comes to fitness there is no one who can beat you at it faster than a professional athlete. They are amazing at what they do in their respective sports and their lives are full of fame and fortune. However, at times, when it comes to personal grooming, all the money in the world cannot stop these athletes from making a fashion disaster out of themselves.
It may not be true for all athletes, as when it comes to appearances some have managed to look their best at many occasions, but some have also managed to groom their way to embarrassment. The weirdest thing male athletes have managed to do is to mould their facial hair into something which makes them look like a disgrace to mankind.
Drew Gooden is an American professional Basketball player in the NBA, who has made a quite an impressive career for himself in the sport. His height is 6 feet 11 inches which has been one of the factors enabling him to succeed in basketball as a profession. This giant may be excellent in his game but he sure has a weird sense of fashion. During his career he has come up with a bunch of absurd ways to style his hair and his facial hair. His beard was at one point about five inches long and twisted into dreadlocks. This was indeed a terrible sight and one really wanted to grab hold of a pair of scissors and cut it off. What was worse is the patch of hair Gooden left unshaved at the back of his bald head. He called it the ‘Duck Tail’ but it looked very much like irregularly grown fungus. He said that he kept this ‘Duck Tail’ in order to distract people, which did work as it was weird and captured the eye; not in an attractive way though. He claimed that the ladies loved it but the question is that were these ladies blind.
Rollie Fingers is a former American relief pitcher in Major League Baseball. Throughout his career he played for the Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers. Now he may have been a sensation in the world of American Baseball, but his moustache has been a major turnoff for the entire world. We do not know what was going through his mind when Rollie Fingers decided to roll his fingers through his moustache and make it into two loops stretching wider out than the width of his face. He may be old now but his q***r moustache has not left him. Someone needs to strike out this outrageous moustache, so that this former athlete can preserve his dignity in his years of retirement.
Another American to have bestowed upon us his weird sense of styling is Alexi Lalas. Lalas is a retired soccer player and was a part of the United States team during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He was also the first modern-era American soccer player to play in the Italian Serie A. Being such a great player did not prevent Lalas from keeping one of the most weird beards in the history of soccer. His beard looked like a meshwork of entangled wires and was bright gold which made it look even worse. It shone brightly in the sun blinding those who lay eyes on it. This beard was something dreadful to attach to one’s face and it makes one wonder how Lalas could do something like this to himself. It was stiff and it pointed outwards like a dagger ready to kill. This former American soccer player has now gotten rid of this disastrous piece of facial hair and is quite dashing to look at without a chunk of disgusting hair growing on his face.
All these athletes were only trying to come up with new styles and a way to look better, but they should have realised earlier that the looks they adopted would have led them to social suicide if they had not been famous in the world of sports. Being a famous athlete sure paid off for them.
