Start of 2012/13 La Liga season could not have had a poor beginning for both Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao. The San Sebastian based entity has six points from their five Primera Division outings, with Marcelo Bielsa’s men accumulating having a tally of one less.
With the Basque derby over the weekend, players from both clubs are eagerly waiting for the kick-off time. Los Leones’ full-back, Xabi Castillo, took out time to reflect on the event, echoing the sentiments from footballers in both dressing rooms.
Castillo claimed that derby meetings are special for players in the respective rosters, with the reasons overtaking the three points on offer. He stated that fans from the both parties are equally interested such meetings and the players do their best to provide a spectacle to behold.
“The derbies are very special. Clearly there are just three points available, but this not just one more game because both teams love to win this match,” he said while talking to reporters.
“It’s a different week, with both teams looking forward to Saturday afternoon for when the game can begin. The entire atmosphere in the two cities of Bilbao and San Sebastian before a derby is great.”
Predicting the events of La Liga game, Xabi Castillo opined that the match will be decided on small details, whilst also claiming that it will be a high tempo affair with both sides looking to get on top of the other.
Moreover, Castillo cautioned Athletic Bilbao players to be strong headed in defence, whilst also concentrating on the short passing game, which should allow them to trouble their rivals.
“It is a game that can be won by small details; intensity may not get the most out of the team. We have to be strong in defence and have a lot of concentration for their short passing.
Continuing on the topic, Castillo stated that Bilbao players will have to be extremely cautious when La Real players have the ball on their feet as they are very dangerous with it.
“With the ball they will be a danger, but it will be important for us to keep a clean sheet and we believe we will also have a few chances of our own.
