Athletic events started in 34th National games Jharkhand
After three days of the opening ceremony, as per schedule yesterday was the day for an athlete to come over on the field. The event is conducting at Birsa Munda stadium.
The event started with the 10,000 metres meeting of male, in which athlete Suresh Kumar Patel from Uttar Pradesh covered the distance of 10,000 metres in 29:59:65 seconds and won the gold medal. Soji Mathew has sprinted 30:02:28 seconds and reached just after Patel and earned silver, whereas Sunil from Haryana clocked 30:03:24 for top third and collected bronze.
Kashinath Awale from Jharkhand was one of the record holders but did not perform well this time. Sridhar Pariya, a good sprinter but he also could not make place in topers.
In women, 10,000 metres, who completed first was Kavita Raut, she finished off the laps with 34:28:26, Pareeja Sreedharan succeeded in getting silver medal by clocking 34:29:79 and Lalita Baber stopped the clock at 36:08:05 seconds to get the bronze. The decision of winners has been announced more than an hour later after the race due to some technical issue in the system. But the curiosity was not on hype because the winners were clear about their triumph and positions.
In Shot put for male, Saurabh Vij from Delhi who was being banned from last October after positive dope test, participating in 34th national games. His first attempt went as a foul then till his fifth attempt he threw his best at 18.90 metres and come up to get gold, Om Prakash earned silver with 18.13 metres far throw and Jagroop Singh won bronze after throwing 18.00 metres.
In women long jump, Mayookha Jhony jumped to get gold medal with a leap of 6.26 metres and succeeded. After her performance she shared her views, “I was happy with the jump, my landing could have been better. This being off-season, I was not too worried.”
Shrada Ghule owned silver medal after a leap of 6.15 metres long and Piyali Paul received bronze with 5.91 metres.
The event is going on with all the controversies and problems. Even the media is unable to cover its national games properly and players are also not satisfied with the facilities. But the game is continued. The Athletic meetings will carry on till 21 February. All the events will be held on consecutive dates.
