Why do the women race 100 metres hurdles but the men race 110 metres hurdles?

Good question.  I never noticed it before.

But my best guess is that it has something to do with the difference

in stride length between men and women, and a required number

of hurdles (10).

I did a little research, and found that the men's hurdles are

7 inches higher than the women's, so probably a

little more distance is needed to jump and clear 10 of these.
