Question:

Ativan make you tired?

My doctor prescribed me Lexapro for depression and Ativan for anxiety. I have only been on the Lexapro for 2 and a half weeks and don’t feel like it has helped much with the depression yet. I take the Ativan when I feel really blue or have anxiety and it makes me feel calm. The problem is after it calms me down it makes me super drowsy. I have avoided caffeine as much as possible because it sounds stupid to be drinking caffeine if you have anxiety but I wanted to ask anyways, would drinking coffee after the ativan makes me tired be okay or would it have a reverse effect?

  1. Ativan absolutely makes you drowsy. Mostly, I've only heard of people taking Ativan before a surgical procedure, to induce sleep, or after an extreme anxiety-related episode. Results are usually somewhere between relaxation to flat-out sleeping. If I were you, I would talk to my doctor and tell them that the antidepressants aren't working, and to see if there's a better fit for you. Until then, I would only take the ativan if you're feeling severely anxious, and I would not take caffeine, just in case.

  2. I actually went to my doctor today and I asked him to put me on ativan. The doctor told me that ativan is bad because it makes you really drowsy and dependant, and its an addicting medicine. Thats what my doctor told me so I just wanted you to know that.

For your depression it takes about a month until you actual start to feel better with the medication.

  3. If you want my honest opinion get off the drugs, you don't need them they only make you worse. It is all mind over matter and your body has all its own medicines built in to combat any illness. The pills will only make you numb so that you wont think about what makes you depressed. You have to deal with the reason why you are depressed on your own and once you have dealt with it, I know it may be hard, then you can move on and get on with your life. I only say this because I was given medicines for over 10 years and it did not solve my problem and when the doctor stopped my medication, all those emotions which the pills had helped me blank out came flooding back and I had to face them and once I did and understood the reason why I was so depressed I got better. Who wants to spend years of their life addicted to drugs? Life's too short! And caffeine shouldnt make you tired.

  4. ativan is something that calms you during a panic or anxiety attack. so it is normal to feel tired. i would not take the ativan if you are feeling blue, it will make you tired. only take it when your anxiety is out of control, it will level you out. you can drink coffee with ativan it wont do anything. remember this is my advise (anxiety also with xanax) so your dr is the best to ask

  5. Drinking caffeine will do nothing if you are on Ativan.

  6. Ativan does not induce sleep. I believe it is the anxiety that you were experiencing, well it actually mentally wore you out. We sometimes sweat, heart can pound, etc. mentally making us not only panicky, but mentally exhausted. Please don't use the caffeine. It will increase the anxiety.
