Atlanta Braves' Dan Uggla takes his hitting streak to 33 games – MLB News
The Atlanta Braves have a great deal to boast about this time, as second baseman Dan Uggla kept captivating his fans on Saturday, August 13 and extended his hitting streak to 33 games, making it a rare show of uninterrupted continuation.
Importantly, Dan Uggla’s hitting streak has come out to be the longest in the franchise’s history. All the same, the streak which had begun on July 5 is now the longest in the 2011 Major League Baseball, setting the Braves’ second baseman apart from his
contemporaries.
On Saturday, when Uggla inquired how he felt about it, he struck a humble note. "That's more games than I thought I would ever have," Uggla said. While he might not have thought that it would continue for so long, he has definitely given his fans a lot to
cheer about.
Of the last 10 games that Uggla has played for the Atlanta Braves, the third baseman has secured 7 wins for the team, accentuating the fact that he remains the backbone of the team at a crucial stage of the season.
Having played 120 games this season so far and 451 at-bats, Dan Uggla has scored 66 runs win no less than 27 home-runs to his credit. His RBIs have gone to 62 while he has an average of .231 and a .297 OBP.
During this particular streak which has become a record in itself, Uggla has maintained a .370 batting average with 14 homers to his credit. The 33-game streak has also given him 31 RBIs which enabled him to break the record of Rico Carty who had 31 continuous
hitting games for the Braves in 1970.
Braves, on the other hand, have maintained a wonderful record this evening with a glaringly consistent performance throughout the season. Having fought hard, the team is all poised to go up if their performance somehow further improves.
Currently the Braves are standing at 5th in the Major League Baseball ranking with 71 wins to their credit, having lost 51 games. While Uggla continues to swing his bat when needed, the Braves stand with the Milwaukee Brewers in the ranking which
also have 70 wins.
Slightly above them are the New York Yankees with 73 wins which gives a fairly good opportunity to the Atlanta Braves to play a set of good games to cross past them. If that happens, the Braves will only be faced with the tougher Boston Red Sox, having 73
wins and the Philadelphia Phillies which stand 1st with 78 wins.
With Uggla having a wonderful season and the Braves’ defence in good shape, it will be interesting to see how this momentum is carried forward to beat other rivals.
