Atlanta Braves’ Ben Sheets put on 15-day disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation-MLB News
The Atlanta Braves' starting pitcher Ben Sheets has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after team officials saw him struggling to block the flow of runs and showing signs of tiredness on the mound against the San Francisco Giants.
Right shoulder inflammation has been reported as the reason behind this. He is expected to return soon as the injury is determined not to be severe in nature.
Ben Sheets has performed tremendously well ever since he played his first game in the season. He has stabilised the flailing rotation of the Braves with his presence.
The team officials had brought him after it was realised that the Braves lacked quality starting pitchers and therefore in order to maintain the current success throughout the season they needed an experienced hurler.
Therefore when Sheets entered the season he had a lot of expectations to fulfil and credit goes to him as he rightly lived up to them and bridged the discrepancy which was worrying the team back then.
By winning games for the Braves on a number of occasions, he encouraged the management to believe that he can help the team immensely during the crucial matches of the season.
However, by the time he leaked runs against the Giants it was apprehended that he may grow worse in the upcoming starts. Therefore, to give him more rest and the time to realise his mistakes he has been sent on the disabled list.
Talking about how even his better pitches were struck for hits and runs, Sheets commented.
"I feel like if I just had, not the extra velocity, just the finish on the ball, it would get by them," Sheets said. "It's just not getting by them. They can foul off my tough pitch."
Meanwhile, he is fairly confident that he will come back soon and will start delivering the kind of performances that the management wants.
"I can pitch at this level. I just need to be at 100 percent," Sheets said. "I've dealt with it my whole life. Normally you can pitch through it and you can make a turn for the better. But we don't have that kind of time."
The Braves will be looking to make sure Sheets finds his best form again and learns how to keep putting up splendid shows on the mound on a consistent basis after coming back.
