Atlanta Braves’ Brandon Beachy returns to the mound since Tommy John surgery - MLB Update
Brandon Beachy comes back to the mound for the first time since he was announced out from the season due to an injury. Though still far from throwing at his best, he gives his arm some exercise and makes Atlanta Braves hopeful that he can participate in
the upcoming season.
Beachy left the Braves at a time when he was in the groove. He was throwing complete games and was helping his team pile up wins.
Before Tim Hudson and Kris Medlen came to stabilise the Braves’ rotation, he was the spearhead of their pitching crew.
Apart from leading the Braves in terms of ERA, he topped a number of categories related to pitchers as a whole of Major League.
If his expedition was not hampered by the injury, he may have gone on to record one of the best win-loss numbers of the season. It was equally possible that if he stayed in the season, he would now be a strong contender for winning CY Young Award.
Unfortunately he landed on disabled list and never returned to the rotation.
Currently, he is going through a rehabilitation process following the Tommy John surgery. He is looking forward to join the Braves at the earliest and if not Spring Training he plays a reasonable number of matches in the next season.
As far as the improvements in his throws after the surgery are concerned, it is premature to believe that he is capable of starting normal matches. Realistically speaking, he has yet to take some time before he can feel that he is set to throw as many innings
as he wants.
Beachy will be looking to return to the mound occasionally and gradually put himself on the path to complete recovery.
The Braves on the other hand will be planning as to when possibly Beachy can make an entry into the season next year. Based on their estimations about him, they can decide as to how many pitchers they will need and whether they require replacement of Beachy
or not.
It will be interesting to keep track of the rehabilitation process of Beachy and observe as to for how long he can stay out from the Braves.
