Atlanta Braves’ Brian McCann returns to line-up after receiving cortisone shot - MLB Update

The struggle with his shoulder has stopped Atlanta Braves’ catcher Brian McCann from playing the last couple of games. In order to soothe the pain and achieve some timely relief, he has received a cortisone shot the other day in his shoulder. This has helped
him in coming back to the line-up for playing the rest of the games in the season.
However, the fact the pain in his shoulder may appear again any time calls for the need to observe caution toward his issue by the management and the possible reduction in his playing time.
Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez realises that McCann is passing through a critical phase in his career and if he is not given proper care he may be done for the whole season.
Gonzalez has stated that he will provide McCann the time to rest whenever he finds the room and will bring into use replacements. For the manager, playing McCann occasionally is not difficult in light of the fact that David Ross and J.C. Boscan have shown
credentials for doing the catching job effectively.
McCann has been trying hard to get rid of the jinx of hitless outings and begin hitting massive home-runs for the team. While he lived up to his reputation in the first half of the season, the beginning of the second half has turned out to be the harbinger
of his slump. As is indicated by his poor batting average since then, he at the moment suffers serious issues with regard to his ability to show power at the plate.
If the cortisone shot he has been injected with does not serve the purpose, he will go through a lengthy rehab process which may include surgery. Indeed, he is standing at a critical juncture of his expedition in the season.
“Hopefully get him going with the bat and get his shoulder calmed down as much as we can to get him through the season,” Gonzalez said. “I think before we were going [with a day off] almost every five days. I think we may do it a little different, maybe
give him two [starts], then if there’s a lefty matchup, like Friday, give him that off.”
As McCann has joined the line-up now, he will be looking to reverse his offensive decline and become as reliable a hitter as he has been for Atlanta in the past.
