Atlanta Braves’ Chipper Jones intends to start six games in a row - MLB Update
As part of the special care to his surgically-repaired knees, Atlanta Braves’ Chipper Jones has not played more than five games in the season consecutively. However, during the upcoming home-stand against the New York Mets, he will create an exception. The
fact it is his last regular season has given him the motivation as well as the energy to keep playing matches uninterrupted.
Jones has a tremendous season so far and in almost every category of the offence his name sits among the leaders. Unfortunately the injuries have been putting hurdles in his way to play smoothly.
Against all the odds, he appeared in the matches whenever he was fit and delivered.
Realising that this is his last season, Jones is trying to enjoy every moment of it.
Earlier in the season when he returned from injury, he defied normal procedure of playing rehab games and attempted to jump into the Major League right away. This reflects his penchant to make this season as the most cherished memory of his life. He made
himself available as he felt good enough to play.
However, in order to make sure his surgically-repaired knees are not re-injured, he has followed a routine meticulously throughout the season and has purposefully missed out on his sixth game in a row.
The fact the Braves have now qualified for the playoffs will be satisfying for the 40-year-old. He has another opportunity to fascinate the fans with his typical home-runs during the crucial stages of important matches.
Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez supports Jones’ desire to play games against the Mets in upcoming home-stand.
“Our goal is to go ahead and try to clinch and try to get in, and then play it by ear,” Gonzalez said. “He wants to play all the games at home and you can’t blame him. And if we get a chance to clinch, maybe you give him a couple at-bats every day and take
him out of the game, that kind of stuff.”
Manager will be hoping that Jones stays healthy and ensures his presence in October when the post-season starts. It will be interesting to see the offensive contribution of Jones in the matches ahead.
