Atlanta Braves’ Frank Wren terms Wild Card single-game playoff a harsh reality - MLB Update
Atlanta Braves' general manager Frank Wren while responding to a question regarding the Wild Card game has stated that it is a bitter reality to face. For a team that plays 162 games and in the end sees their fate decided by just one match, it must be demoralising.
To be out from the post-season as soon as entering in it can be disheartening for a side.
Braves played extremely well throughout the regular season but failure in one game against the St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card match has eclipsed their whole season of achievements.
Wren has given a detailed interview regarding the performance of the Braves and what he is planning for future. By and large, Wren is fairly satisfied with the way players stood up and ensured great number of wins in the season for the team.
Wren will be aware of certain loop-holes prevailing in the club and will be looking to address them in the offseason.
The exclusion of Chipper Jones in the team due to retirement can weaken their offence which is generally considered their forte.
Wren will make sure that they find someone who counter-balances the impact of the absence of Jones and keeps their offence lifting the team for years to come.
“All of us at the general managers meeting when we talked about this format, it’s not a format that’s indicative of the best team. When you’re playing for six months and 162 games, this is not a sport where you play 20 games. This is not a sport where you
play a handful of games, and then one game is appropriate. This is a sport where it’s about series, it’s about winning series. And one game is kind of a harsh reality,” Wren said.
Wren states that during the meeting they talked about the injustice that can be done to some of the teams with this format. He is of the view that in order to determine the best team, playing a series can be a far better option.
Regardless of the defeat in the Wild Card game, Wren will be looking to build up a strong team for next year and see the Braves earning some glory.
