Atlanta Braves’ General Manager Frank Wren receives extension until 2014 - MLB Update
President John Schuerholz for Atlanta Braves has declared that General Manager Frank Wren will stay in the organisation until 2014. Wren has led the Braves extremely well in the last couple of years.
While he has been unable to take the Braves to winning the World Series, he somehow has stabilised the club. For example, in almost every season in his tenure, Atlanta has performed reasonably well.
As far as the upcoming season is concerned, Wren has number of issues to address, for example possible free agency of Michael
Bourn and shoulder injury of catcher Brian McCann.
He has worked extremely hard in the last few years. If he can continue removing bugs and flaws in the Braves in the same way, he can shape a quality unit for the next year.
He will be mindful of what went wrong for the Braves in the season and how they can learn lessons and improve.
The Braves played tremendously well throughout the regular season but in the Wild Card game they surrendered before the St. Louis Cardinals. Bad performance in just one game led to their elimination from the post-season.
The fact that under pressure Atlanta has struggled on number of occasions must be in the mind of Wren. He will be making sure that players are mentally strong and can handle the pressure properly for the next season.
What is unfortunate about the Braves is that they have all the talent of the World on their roster and yet more often than not they end up getting ousted from the season without achieving anything substantial.
This is something Wren will be concerned about.
Contract extension by the Braves to Wren is a clear reflection of the satisfaction of the club with his work. This shows that Wren is one of the reasons why the Braves have been consistent with regard to their performance during the regular seasons.
As far as the next season is concerned, Wren will be making decisions about few changes on roster.
Without Chipper Jones, the Braves’ offence must be weakened. In this regard, he may look for couple of batters and have them on roster so that their offence remains strong.
In the off-season, it can be expected that Wren take number of steps regarding the improvement of the team for the upcoming season.
