Atlanta Braves’ Jason Heyward takes Gold Glove Award for right fielders in National League-MLB
Right fielder for Atlanta Braves, Jason Heyward gets the Gold Glove Award from the National League. He has been conferred this honour due to his effectiveness in the field.
Even before he earned this glory, his defensive credentials were well-accredited. The Fielding Bible Award that he won in the season explains that he has been excellent in the field.
Heyward brings pride for the Braves by becoming one of the few players that clinched this honour for the team in the last few years.
Apart from defence, Heyward has been tremendous as a hitter in the season. He struck home-runs while pulling off wins for the Braves on various occasions single-handedly.
The Braves made it to the post-season this year after they posted an excellent win-loss record. Throughout the regular season, they were among the few dominant teams in the National League.
The way their pitchers were leading them to wins, they may have easily gone deep in the post-season.
Unfortunately their expedition was put to halt by the St. Louis Cardinals during the one-game playoff. Even as they met an early exit from the playoffs, they were extremely satisfied with their overall performance.
As Heyward earns the Gold Glove honour, this can be taken as another feather in the cap of the Braves.
David Ross has spoken highly about Heyward, considering him an ideal candidate for the Award. He has stated that his speed and the ability to move back and forth quickly give him an edge over others.
“He’s the best I’ve ever seen in right field going back on a baseball,” catcher David Ross said. “It may be because of his height and speed combined. He can really go back. And it allows him to play a shallow right field, which I like as a catcher because
I want my pitcher to be rewarded and not give up so many hits on bloopers and broken bats.”
Heyward will like to continue helping the Braves defensively in the seasons to come.
He will ascertain that he finds out areas that potentially can become the cause of his decline and fix them.
