Atlanta Braves: Ready for the Playoffs – MLB Feature
As the Atlanta Braves shut-out the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in their last game of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season, their focus is now set on battling it out against the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2012 National League
Wild Card match-up.
Last year the Cardinals entered the postseason through the Wild Card and went all the way to win the World Series title. Atlanta is fully aware of the task that they currently face. As with most teams in the postseason, tactics and strategies change. Players
that were silent a few weeks ago all of a sudden lift their game and put in magical performances.
After an amazing 19-year career, Atlanta’s Chipper Jones is playing in his last MLB postseason. The experienced campaigner is fully capable of leading the Braves over the tough Cardinals. The basic fact that Jones has been around for such a long time and
battled it out with some of the best in the business gives the Braves a definite edge.
The team will be looking to put in a strong performance and give something for their team-mate Chipper to remember.
During the 2012 regular season, the Braves dominated the Cardinals 5-1. If the Braves can do it during the regular season, there is a very good chance that the team can continue their journey in the postseason by taking the Cardinals out in their Wild Card
match-up.
There is no doubting the fact that the Braves have the talent to beat the Cardinals and move forward in the postseason. Players like Chipper Jones, Kris Medlen, Paul Maholm and Dan Uggla will be picking their performance up to help the Braves advance to
the Division Series.
Tackling the Cardinals will not be easy for the Braves. The Cardinals proved to everyone last year that all they really need is just an inch and they will take a mile. Coming through the Wild Card last year and taking the World Series proved their level
of determination and commitment for the crown.
Although many critics feel that last year the Cardinals did have the mighty Albert Pujols smashing hits all over the place to help them. However, it is a testament to them as they have managed to put up a good performance during the regular season without
their heavy hitter and still make it to the Wild Card match-up.
St. Louis are the defending champions and taking them on will definitely not be a walk in the park for the Braves. The team will be looking to work hard and dominate from the first game if they are to have a chance of moving forward into the postseason.
Having an experienced player like Chipper Jones during this time is a bonus for the Braves. He has seen and done it all, something the Atlanta will be looking for from him. Also, the fact that this is Chipper’s last postseason in MLB, the Braves will definitely
have some renewed confidence to show their veteran player off with a World Series title.
No matter what happens, fireworks will be flying as these two mammoth teams collide in the National League Wild Card match-up. Whichever team comes out on top you can be sure that the match-up will be exciting as both teams will put it all on the line and
advance in the postseason.
