Atlanta Braves: Regular season results – MLB June 2011
After improving their win-loss record to 30-26 with some strong performances in the month of May 2011, Atlanta Braves were looking to strengthen their position in the Wild Card standings with even better results in June 2011. Fredi Gonzalez and his men ended
the three match series with San Diego Padres on a high note. Trailing 0-2 in the series, the Braves came up with a brilliant effort in game three. Showing amazing fighting spirits and determination, the Braves bounced back to salvage some of their lost pride
in a tense 4-3 finish.
Tommy Hanson was a winner as he pitched in six scoreless innings on the sweltering night to help his side avoid their first series sweep of the season and Atlanta Braves rallied past the Padres.
"It was really hot out there," Hanson (6-4) said. "But this is my third year pitching here. I'm used to it. You know it's going to be hot."
"That was a good way to finish it after the last couple of nights," said Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez, shaking his head after the team's fifth straight one-run game.
The Braves made a great start to their next three match series against New York Mets as well. In a thrilling encounter, Fredi Gonzalez’s side displayed some high quality baseball to emerge victorious with a 6-3 score line.
Eric Hinske was absolutely brilliant with the bat as he struck-out and later hit a tie-breaking home-run in the ninth inning to help the Braves take a 1-0 lead in the series.
"I was thinking I was going to try to ambush him," Hinske said. "I took a chance on a first-pitch fastball and got ready early."
However, the Braves were unable to maintain their good form in their following two fixtures as they let the Mets clinch a 2-1 series victory. In game two, the hitters were awful as they failed to post a single run on the board. Despite putting up a good
fight in game three, the Braves failed to handle the pressure at crucial moments.
Atlanta Braves looked in supreme form in their next three match series against Florida Marlins. Winning each encounter comprehensively, they completed their first series sweep of the season in great style. Fredi Gonzalez was absolutely delighted with the
way his team played during the series and he aimed to give similar results in the upcoming games as well.
The Braves continued to impress the critics afterwards as well and they hammered Houston Astros with an impressive 3-1 series win, improving their win-loss record to 38-29. With series’ wins over Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners, the Braves ended the
month of June quite strongly.
