Atlanta Braves: Regular season results – MLB May 2011
With a 13-15 win-loss record in the month of April, Atlanta Braves had made a decent start to their regular season campaign. However, the team manager Fredi Gonzalez still thought that there was room for improvement and he aimed to give even better results
in the month of May 2011.
Although the Braves had lost the series 0-2 to St. Louis Cardinals, they staged in third and final game of a three match series to restore some of the lost pride. Showing great determination, fighting abilities and mental strength, Fredi Gonzalez and his
men made most of the available opportunities and they emerged victorious 6-5 in a nail biting encounter.
With score tied at 5-5, Brooks Conrad drove in the winning run in ninth innings of the game to lift his side to a much needed victory.
"It's the best feeling," Conrad said. "Anytime you can get a base hit like that, it feels really good. Walk-off hits like that are few."
Raising their game to an entirely new level, the Braves looked in supreme form in a four match series against Milwaukee Brewers. Emerging victorious in each contest of a four match series, they improved their win-loss record to 18-15, which was stunning
achievement considering the kind of start they had to the season. In game one, the Braves dominated their opponent in almost all aspects of the game to clinch 1-0 lead in the series. The Braves had an easy ride in game two as well as the hitters scored heavily.
The Braves crushed the Brewers with an incredible 8-0 scoreline in game to secure a comfortable and decisive 3-0 lead in the series. Tim Hudson was close to perfection on the mound as he pitched flawlessly. He pitched a one-hitter, facing only two batters
above the minimum and Atlanta Braves outshined the Brewers in a very one sided contest.
"I'm never trying to throw a no-hitter," he said. "But that was about as close as I feel like I can get."
The Braves continued their impressive form in fourth and final game of the series as well and they thrashed their rivals 2-1 to complete their first series sweep of the month. Brandon Beachy pitched six wonderful innings and Martin Prado hit a tie-breaking
homer in the eighth inning to let their side come out on top.
"He's just not getting the wins, but for me he's pitched well enough to have at least four wins," Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez said of Breachy.
The Braves ended the month on a positive note as well as they secured series’ wins over Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds.
