Atlanta Braves: Regular season results – MLB September 2011
With an impressive 80-55 win-loss record, everything seemed to be working for Atlanta Braves in the month of August. Team manager, Fredi Gonzalez and his men had made a poor start to their regular season campaign. However, with each passing game in the league,
they improved their game play significantly. It was an amazing accomplishment by the Braves considering they were only 13-15 at the end of April. The Braves were looking to continue their good run in the month of September 2011 as well to make it to the World
Series.
Making the most of available opportunities, the Braves crushed Washington Nationals 5-2 in third and final game to earn their first series victory of the month. Tim Hudson delivered a great performance for his side as he allowed only one run and five hits
in six innings. Brian McCann and Chipper Jones homered in a deserving 5-2 win over the Nationals.
The Braves were hoping to achieve similar results in their next three match series against Los Angeles Dodgers as well. However, they were unable to execute their plan to perfection and Dodgers defeated them in the opening two games to take a decisive 2-0
lead in the series. Despite putting up a great fight in game one, the Braves were outplayed in finer details of the game.
Fredi Gonzalez’s side failed to handle the pressure in game two as well as they suffered their first series loss of the month. Raising their game to a higher level, the Braves held their nerves in another tense finish in third and final game of the series.
Martin Prado singled in the winning run in ninth innings and Atlanta Braves broke the Los Angeles Dodgers’ six-game winning streak in a great style.
"It was big for us not to go into Philly having lost three straight," third baseman Chipper Jones said. "One of the biggest wins of the year, I'll tell you."
The Braves looked completely out of sorts in their next three match series against Philadelphia Phillies. Not winning a single game, they failed to live up to the expectations. Fredi Gonzalez aimed to bring more improvement in his team’s game play to end
the season on a high note.
In a two game series against New York Mets, the Braves pulled themselves out of the slump with a 2-0 series win. Showing great fighting spirit, the Braves handled the pressure brilliantly in a closely contested 6-5 opening game. Crushing their rivals with
a 5-1 win in game two, they earned their first series victory of the month with some high quality baseball.
However, the Braves were unable to deliver the goods in series’ against Florida Marlins, Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies, which damaged their win-loss record significantly to 89-73.
