Atlanta Braves: Spring Training results – MLB 2011
Atlanta Braves made a decent start to their Spring Training campaign. Although they failed to get over the finish line 4-5 in their opening game against New York Mets, the overall quality of their game play was quite satisfactory. In their next games against
Houston Astros, the Braves raised their game to an entirely new level, securing a crushing 13-3 win over their opponents.
Derek Lowe allowed just two hits in two scoreless innings in his first start of the spring season as the Braves crushed Houston Astros 13-3 to win their first game.
"If I was 27 years old, I'd be out here throwing curveballs and sliders like I did at the end of the year last year," he said Monday following a 13-3 win over the Astros' in Houston's exhibition opener.
In another game against Houston Astros, the Braves’ pitchers did now allow a single run to the hitters as the cruised to a superb 3-0 win. Demolishing the inform Boston Red Sox 6-1, the Braves seemed to be in terrific form.
Tim Hudson allowed two hits and a walk with one strike-out, throwing 34 pitches, including 21 for strikes to help his side secure a big win against the Red Sox.
"Just throw strikes and try to pound the strike zone," Hudson said of his approach to his first outing. "I feel like I did that for the most part. My two-seamer felt pretty good. Command with it for the most part was good; at times I left some pitches up
a little bit for balls."
The Braves then displayed some high quality baseball in a game against Detroit Tigers. Coming back from behind, they registered an emphatic 4-3 victory in a nail biting encounter. Chipper Jones played third base for the first time since the start of training
season in a flawless display of baseball and the Braves battled past Detroit Tigers to earn their third straight win.
The Braves demolished New York 12-0 in a completely one sided contest to earn their tenth win of the season. Tim Hudson, once again was the star of the show as he pitched brilliantly over four innings to help his side cruise to a memorable victory.
Overall, the 2011 Spring Training season proved to be a very encouraging one for the Braves as they defeated strong teams like New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox. With 17 wins and four ties in 33 games, things were on the right track for
them. It looked like the Braves had gotten things right in the offseason and re-organised themselves successfully. The team would be hoping for a decent performance once the regular season began.
