Atlanta Braves beat Baltimore Orioles 4-2 as Brian McCann and Andrelton Simmons thrash homers-MLB
Catcher Brian McCann and shortstop Andrelton Simmons thrash home runs guiding the Atlanta Braves to a 4-2 win against the Baltimore Orioles on June 15, 2012 in first game of the three match series at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia.
Braves got off to a great start, adding one run in the first and keeping Orioles scoreless for three innings.
In top of the fourth, Braves were unsettled as Orioles surpassed and posted one-run lead.
However, their lead was not to stay for long, with Braves’ offence searching for hits and trying its best to blow it. Finally, the sixth came, and Simmons belted a two-run home run, restoring dominance.
McCann’s power-hitting display continues, as he slams a mammoth home-run in the first. He made two hits in four at-bats, contributing one RBI in the process.
Third-baseman, Chipper Jones seems to have slowed down since returning to season after recovering from injury. While before the injury he was producing big hits and striking homers, from the last week, not even a fraction of that has come off from him.
Simmons was the star-performer for Braves. Making the most of his at-bats, he went 3-for-4. Home run he struck was decisive as afterwards Braves wrapped up the victory.
While Simmons delivered a splendour on plate, on the field he made a costly error, allowing Orioles to add two runs. With this, he made the starter Tommy Hanson giving up two runs.
"After I made the error, I felt like it cost us two runs," Simmons said. "I was trying to make it up to the team and to Tommy."You try not to try too hard, but it's in the back of your head. You try to cover your mistakes."
Hanson threw over five innings and gave up four hits. By-and-large, he put up a solid performance. Only area he struggled in a bit was allowing six walks in the game.
Best part of the match was a control Braves’ relievers exhibited on Friday after they fell to late-innings pressure for number of times last week.
Relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel, by throwing a scoreless ninth, grabbed his 19th save of the season.
Keeping momentum afloat will be important. It will decide where the Braves end up on conclusion of the series.
