Atlanta Braves’ chipper Jones satisfied with life after retirement - MLB Update
Chipper Jones enters into a new life after playing his last game as a Major Leaguer against St. Louis Cardinals.
Far from getting nostalgic about anything and expressing despair over not playing baseball again, Jones is extremely satisfied. He looks to open a whole new chapter of his life.
Jones could not make his last game worth remembering. Throwing errors coming off from him in the field cost his side defeat in the Wild Card game.
Although he was disappointed, this has not made him feel unhappy with the way he is departing the Major League. He has achieved many laurels in his career that a single event cannot eclipse the splendours that he has attained in the last two decades.
Jones declared before the season that he will retire and will not change his decision. By the time he delivered offensive fireworks from the plate in the season, some believed that he can continue playing for a couple of years.
Responding to such suggestions, Jones always maintained that he will not think of taking his decision back.
Jones is barely finding any difficulty in his transition from an active player to a retired one. Five years ago, Jones could not imagine leaving baseball with such ease and comfort.
“This is a lot easier than I thought it would be than five years ago when I thought this moment would come,” Jones said. “That lets me know that I’m ready. I think if I were in here sobbing uncontrollably that it would be painfully apparent that I wasn’t
ready to walk out the door, but I’m ready.”
Jones is excited to experience new realities and going beyond the world of baseball. One of the major assignments following the last match for Jones is watching a football match of his son.
Jones believes regardless of the outcome of the last game of his career, he is pleased with overall performance of his team.
“I saw it ending somewhat heroically, no matter whether we won or lost,” Jones said. “Man, was I in for a rude surprise. But what are you going to do? It is what it is.”
With the retirement of Jones, Atlanta will be without a legend in their offence. It will be interesting to see as to who assumes his role in the team from now onward.
