Atlanta Braves claim Jordan Schafer after Houston Astros put him on waiver - MLB Update
Outfielder Jordan Schafer rejoins Atlanta Braves after beginning his career from the same organisation. He was put on waiver by Houston Astros, following his unimpressive performance in 2012 regular season. As soon as the Braves witnessed the opportunity,
they obtained him.
The move may appear to be unexpected to many due to the fact that Schafer is the same player that the Braves got rid of purposefully when he suffered an injury.
While he is reliable when it comes to defence, with regard to offence he does not have much to offer the Braves.
The Braves know the fact that they cannot expect anything substantial from him offensively. They must be aware of how he disappointed the team when he was given so many at-bats by them when he played for the club.
Apparently, the decision can be construed as an attempt to strengthen the centre field by Atlanta. The Braves desperately need a dependable fielder at this position.
Braves have welcome Schafer back into the club. Schafer is equally excited to become part of the Braves once again.
Schafer is extremely unhappy with the way he struggled throughout the recently concluded regular season. He did not live up to the expectations of the Astros. For the same reason, they placed him on waiver at the conclusion of the season.
Jordan wants to forget what he did in the season as he looks to begin a new journey. He is of the view that it is due to psychological reasons than the lack of skills that he is floundering at the plate.
"I've got to get back on track mentally more than physically," Schafer said. "I mean physically, I think everybody knows that my skills and my tools are there. It's just I need to take care of mentally being in the right mind frame and having a positive
attitude and being a good clubhouse guy and all that kind of stuff."
He intends to prepare in a way that he develops a positive outlook toward the game. Spring Training will be a platform for him to find a better technique and turn out to be a utility player for the Braves in the upcoming season.
