Atlanta Braves crush St. Louis Cardinals 9-7 – MLB Recap
The Atlanta Braves crushed the 2012 World Series Champions St. Louis Cardinals 9-7 in the first game of their three-match regular encounter on Friday, May 11, at Busch Stadium, St. Louis in 2012 Major League Baseball season and took an early commanding position
in the series.
Right fielder Jason Heyward smashed a two-run homer in the 12th inning and made easy for the Braves to edge past the last years champions.
He throughout the game also remained productive in the field. The game came at crucial stage, but the Heyward remained cool and calm and eventually hammered a homer into the left field giving his team a wonderful win over the Cardinals.
“I thought Beltran was going to beat us every time he came to the plate, and he almost did," Heyward said. "I just got enough of it. I tried to stay simple, not try to do too much. They've had a good team here for years, and they have another good team,
Our pitchers hung in there; our defense hung in there."
The game was played with even pace as both teams showed good beginning and started well with early runs on board. The Braves made three runs in the second inning and led the Cardinals with two runs. Later the Cardinals pushed their hitters who performed
with great agility and made five quick runs in the fourth, fifth innings and eighth innings.
On the other hand, looking Cardinals players hammering their pitchers, the Braves did not lose confidence and started to perform. They came out in the seventh and eighth innings with full swing and closed the Cardinals lead with only one run.
The final two runs made the difference which was made by the Braves hitters who eventually shattered the Cardinals winning the game with 9-7.
After the game, the Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said for his team’s loss, "We had some opportunities to finish it off, We just couldn't make it happen."
With this win the Braves are now confident for their next game with the St. Louis Cardinals which will be played on Saturday, May 12.
