Atlanta Braves defeat Florida Marlins 1-0 – MLB Update
Atlanta Braves put in a good performance as they defeated Florida Marlins 1-0 at Sun Life Stadium, Miami on Tuesday, June 7.
Losing their three games against Milwaukee Brewers by a margin of one run, this was the fourth such fate they have had in the last five games for the Marlins.
The Marlins sixth consecutive loss was the result of Tommy Hanson’s six innings, in which he allowed no runs, strengthening the Braves’ grip on the game and sealing the eventual victory.
While Hanson rendered the Marlins’ hitters unable, it was Gonzalez who hit the sixth homer of his career. "I know I can hit homers," he said. "But I don't want to try every time to hit a homer, homer, homer."
The Marlins were unlucky too with all the strategies that they had planned for the Tuesday’s game. Brad Hand made his Major League debut here with only hit that he gave up, which did not prove auspicious.
"We're very close to that," The Marlins’ manager Rodriguez said. "The energy is there, the passion is there, the desire is there. It's just not happening. Maybe they're putting pressure on themselves. We wasted another good outing by the pitching staff.
Brad Hand was very impressive. His poise was excellent.”
Tuesday’s game could well have been a one-sided affair for the pitchers and so it remained at the end, apart from the only run that Hand allowed in the fourth inning. As the initial three innings went scoreless, both Tommy Hanson and Hand were too strong
for the respective teams’ batters to play.
Hanson exemplified his game with apparently no big flaw. Something that he referred to and said, "I made pitches when they mattered," Hanson said. "When you get in those situations, you've got to do your best. That's all I was trying to do. To get two hits
and win is crazy,"
However, Andrew Gonzalez hit a homer to left in the fourth inning to give the Braves a good 1-0 lead early. Having done that, Hanson went stronger against the Marlins’ hitters and succeeded in containing them.
Even though Hand did not allow any other hit either on his debut, the only run that Gonzalez drove in proved cataclysmic. Having got the 1-0 lead up until the ninth inning, the Braves’ pitcher Craig Kimbrel pitched a shut-out inning to seal the 1-0 win for
his team.
