Atlanta Braves defeat Florida Marlins 4-3 – MLB Update
The Atlanta Braves continued their winning streak on Tuesday, August 9 as they beat the Florida Marlins 4-3 in the second consecutive game at Sun Life Stadium.
The Braves were assisted by a carefully planned defensive strategy and offensive combination to overwhelm the Florida Marlins.
Also, Dan Uggla got his hitting streak extended to 30 games as his team edged its way to another victory. However, much as the Braves played aggressively, the win did not come easy as the Marlins also put up some fierce resistance.
Braves’ hitters had to await the eleventh inning to execute the victory which included Martin Prado’s three runs that he drove and striking four hits. The Braves now are way ahead than the Marlins with 68 wins to their credit, while Marlins reel behind with
only 55 wins.
Tuesday’s game began with a solid inning that Clay Hensley tossed, disallowing any Braves’ hitter to get any run. Brandon Beachy remained strong with his equally solid inning that kept the first inning scoreless.
Braves had the first run of the game in the second inning when Michael Bourn charged Clay Hensley, allowing Alex Gonzalez to give 1-0 lead to the team by the end of the first inning. Beachy then pitched another shut-out to keep the lead in the Braves’ favour.
While Beachy was able to contain the Marlins’ hitters, the Braves’ offence kept vigilantly looking for an opportunity to utilise. This paid off in the fifth inning when Martin Prado hit a homer to double the Braves lead.
Prado drove his second and the team’s third run in the sixth inning, tripling the Braves’ lead. While the lead was in the favour of the Braves and Beachy pitching effective innings, the seventh inning brought about a change in the game.
John Buck hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning just when Beachy seemed to be in the driving seat. Buck’s homer levelled the score, and threw an ingredient in the fascinating mix of the game. As the Marlins had staged a comeback in the game, the Braves
had to sceptically reassess the game.
Randy Choate tossed a shut-out eighth, Leo Nunez went for a scoreless ninth and Edward Mujica threw another unplayable tenth to keep the score level up until the last eleventh inning when Prado played his most decisive role in the game.
Prado drove in his third and team’s fourth run – making it a tiebreaking run, to give an edge to the Braves. Having got a 4-3 lead, Craig Kimbrel proved to be an instrumental closer who threw some good pitches to turn the 4-3 lead into victory for the Atlanta
Braves in the 11th inning.
