Atlanta Braves defeat Florida Marlins 8-5 – MLB Update
The Atlanta Braves on Monday, August 8 beat the Florida Marlins 8-5 to make a comfortable start in the three-game series at Sun Life Stadium.
Dan Uggla not only had a hit but scored on the three-run homer coming off Alex Gonzalez’s bat. As for Uggla it mattered. "Every hit counts," Uggla said. "You take the infield ones with the doubles in the gap. Hitting ain't easy."
The Braves actually had a tough start whereby the team struggled to win their games. Having got fierce resistance from the rival teams, the Braves had to redouble their efforts to see things work for them.
"For what he went through in April and May and keeping level headed, it's nice for him to do what he signed up for," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "I give him all the credit in the world, because there would be a lot of guys moping around. He stayed the same
guy."
Monday’s game began with an aggressive inning that Derek Lowe pitched, not allowing any runs to the Marlins’ hitters. Soon after that, the Braves’ offence sparked and drove in four runs to strengthen their grip on the game.
Michael Bourn was the first to snap a single following whom Martin Prado also scored an RBI run to double the lead. Before Brad Hand finish the second inning where he had given up two runs, Freddie Freeman had a hit on which Michael Bourn and Martin Prado
scored, giving the team a 4-0 lead.
Derek Lowe went for a strong second inning, but allowed two runs in the third as Mike Stanton and Gaby Sanchez scored a single each to bring the Atlanta’s lead down to 4-2. Brad Hand then pitched a scoreless fourth to keep the Braves’ hitters at bay.
However, Brad Hand could not maintain the lead for long as Alex Gonzalez had a big hit in the fifth inning, driving in a three-run homer to take the Braves lead to 7-2 against the straining Marlins’ starter.
Uggla had his 29 hit streak in the sixth inning against Brian Sanches, taking the Braves’ lead up to 8-2. Cristhian Martinez relieved Derek Lowe to toss a scoreless seventh but could not go for a shut-out eighth as Gregg Dobbs homered to take the Marlins
score to 8-3.
John Buck came as a closer for the Braves. John Buck hit a two-run homer in one of the pitches to keep the Marlins floating, but Buck sent other hitters packing, wrapping up the game with 8-5 victory for the Atlanta Braves.
The Braves managed to put in a tremendous effort as they beat the Marlins 8-5. Florida will be looking to improve their performance in their next match-up.
