Atlanta Braves defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 as they record their 12th victory – MLB Update
Third baseman Chipper Jones singles to right and Jack Wilson reaches the home plate in the ninth inning as the Atlanta Braves win 4-2 against Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California on April 25, 2012.
Starter Brandon Beachy threw little more than six innings for the Braves. While striking out six, he conceded seven hits and gave up two runs, including a homer. Dodgers’ centre-fielder Matt Kemp hit a massive homer to left-centre.
With two hits in four at-bats, Braves' first baseman Freddie Freeman takes his season slugging percentage to an impressive .507.
After struggling at the start, catcher Brian McCann has found the consistency he desired before start of the season as he went 1-for-4 in the game.
Jones is relishing his penultimate moments in the Major League. With homer in last game and providing the Braves lead in the ninth inning with a single today, he is actually making his time worth remembering after the departure, which he will at the end
of the season.
"It's been a storybook season so far," he said. "It's been one highlight after another. And, man, I'm savoring each and every one of them because you never know when the last one is going to come. To have revered this ballpark and this organization the way
I did as a kid, and to leave it here tonight like this, it's awfully special. I'll remember that inning and that hit and that last play of the game for a long time."
Jones is a most expensive player on the Braves’ roster. He played his entire career with the Braves and never fancied a free agency. Couple of months back, severe criticism arose, terming him a huge financial burden on the club with no real benefit to the
club due to the injury-prone body he has.
With his belligerent performance on the plate and on the ground, he has silenced critics for the moment.
The Brave holds Wild Card position on the National League East Division currently.
That position is always vulnerable given the potential performance the teams like Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins can put up. Therefore, the manager Fredi Gonzalez will never want his side to grow complacent in the prestige of initial victories
in the season.
