Atlanta Braves defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 to end their winning-streak – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Dodgers were finally brought down to the earth by the Atlanta Braves after the latter defeated the former 4-3 to bring an end to the Dodger’s six-game winning-streak on Sunday, September 4 at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dodgers had won nine of their last ten games and were in-line to win yet another game but Craig Kimbrel’s shrewd tactics in the depth saw the Braves edge past the Dodgers.
The Dodgers took an early three-run advantage in the third inning and continued their domination till the seventh inning but a late response from the Braves was enough to jolt the jittery bull-pen of the Dodgers.
Matt Kemp hammered a three-run homer towards left field to highlight the intentions of his team. His hit distanced 429-feet and allowed Clayton Kershaw and Dee Gordon to complete their runs. This later turned out to be the only scoring opportunity for the
Dodgers as Cristhian Martinez and Eric O’Flaherty proved to be effective relievers for the Braves.
Randall Delgado did not provide the Braves with an impressive start as he was unglued for three-runs amid four hits in five innings to see his earned-run average surge to 4.20. Delgado lacked variation in his spell and this is one area he will be looking
to improve in the next season.
Clayton Kershaw has been impressive all through this season and was expected to add yet another win to his ever-growing tally this year but a few wayward pitches in the seventh inning were quickly cashed in by the Braves, who scored three runs to bring the
game back in balance.
Alex Gonzalez scored the first run for Atlanta before Brooks Conrad came in as pinch hitter for Martinez and produced a spectacular RBI to allow Jack Wilson and Jose Constanza to reach home base and bring the scorecard to 3-3.
Kimbrel then pitched a masterful ninth inning to keep the visitors at bay but Blake Hawksworth failed to replicate his opposite number’s performance for the Dodgers and lost his fifth game of the season when Constanza scored the crucial fourth run for the
Braves. Kimbrel now has four wins to accompany his 42 saves of the season.
