Atlanta Braves defeat San Francisco Giants 2-1 in eleventh inning of second meeting – MLB Update
The Atlanta Braves get the second straight win over the defending World Series champions San Francisco Giants 2-1 in the eleventh inning with the help of a walk off hit by Martin Prado in the second outing of the four-game series at Turner Field in Atlanta
on Tuesday, August 16.
With the third base loaded by Brooks Conrad after Michael Bourne grounded out, Martin Prado entered the field and faced a ball before a looking strike. He then drove in a single to right-field that allowed Conrad to score the winning run.
"I tried to get away," Martin said after his two-out single in the 11th inning gave the Braves their second straight last at-bat win over San Francisco, 2-1 Tuesday night. "They got me with dirt, the resin bag, everything. That is fine. It's a great win
for the team."
Giants’ reliable closer Javier Lopez, who had won five games tossing at these crucial moments, allowed the hit despite being brilliant with his 15 strikes of 26 pitches. He lost his second game of the season and dropped to a 2.49 ERA with 5-2 win loss record.
After Michael Bourne earned a scoreless tie-breaking RBI single in the bottom of the third inning, the Braves were struggling against the Giants’ reliever Guillermo Mota. He tossed just over three scoreless innings, followed by strong one inning by Jeff
Affeldt and two by Santiago Casilla.
Giants struggled hard to get into the game after the Braves’ starter Randall Delgado held them under strong sinkers over his six innings. Delgado allowed only one hit over his 74 pitches and it cost the Braves a game tier homer by the Giants’ Cody Ross in
the top of the seventh inning.
Eric O’Flaherty, Jonny Venters, Craig Kimbrel and closer Arodys Vizcaino tossed excellent innings to get the Braves into their 72nd win of the season. Vizcaino tossed two one-hitter innings at the crucial time to get his first win of the season.
"My first game, I was nervous," Vizcaino said through a translator. "Now I feel like I'm part of the team because the guys make me feel so comfortable."
Giants are under extreme pressure as the playoffs are coming nearer and nearer. They have lost thirteen of their last twenty games and it can cause them a real blow in the National League Series champions and division games.
