Atlanta Braves face 4-6 defeat against Arizona Diamondbacks as they go 10-6 in the season - MLB
Starter Randall Delgado gives up five runs as the Atlanta Braves lose to Arizona Diamondbacks 4-6 on April 22, 2012 at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
After winning few games in a row, the Braves see their progress halted for the moment. The grand slam Delgado allowed in the second took the Braves far away from the game that any resistance they put up later was just to be in-sufficient.
In little more than five innings, he conceded three hits, walked four and struck-out six. In the process he got his season ERA rise to an unimpressive 5.74.
If it was not for the poor pitches, the Braves will very well win the game, given the fact they scored 10 hits in the game, three more than Diamondbacks. Excluding the second inning grand slam, pitchers hardly allowed more runs, while their hitters launched
the chase of the lead in an impressive fashion.
For the manager, the loss was a good experience and he believes it will help in the upcoming games. Calling Delgado still in the process of learning, as he experiences more games he will come up with what he actually is, Fredi Gonzalez clarified.
"It was a good learning experience," said Gonzalez. "He gets two quick outs in an inning then next think you know there's a five spot put on the board. It's a young pitcher, a young pitcher that needs to mature and get into those situations and doesn't let
the innings get away from him."
Centre-fielder Michael Bourn remains on the top of his form as he provides three hits in three at-bats, completing two runs as well. With this, he takes his season batting average to .338.
Freddie Freeman also had his part going 1-for-2, bringing two RBIs along the way.
This is a time good sides meditate and pick out the week-links to get rid of them. If the Braves are really to upsurge as a formidable side and fetch a potential play-off spot, consistency is something they will be looking to exhibit all through the season.
It will be interesting to see how far they can go in this regard.
