Atlanta Braves finish off Spring Training assignments on a positive note - MLB Update
Atlanta Braves spend a fabulous day at Gwinnett in their last exhibition game against their Minor Leaguers. What was fascinating in the play was to watch the Braves’ former manager Bobby Cox leading future prospects of the club.
As it happened, Cox brought all his experience into play in taking his team to victory. Although it did not come about, a fight back by the players reflected the contribution of Cox words had made on their chances.
“I was proud of our guys,” Cox said. “They played very well and they held their own. We threw some great arms out there. Gilmartin looked really good. We’ve got a lot to look forward to, with some of the pitching especially.”
Day turned out a near ideal pre-season lifter for the club as they saw couple of good news coming through.
Third baseman and a future hall of Famer, Chipper Jones' announcement that he will be ready in time is something the Braves will be extremely happy about. As Jones showed confidence on his return even earlier than last, stated that on April 13 he will magnify
the Braves chances with his belligerent presence on third base.
Not just a fact that Jones holds the prospect of a great season for the Braves led to their happiness, his post season retirement and departure from the club is also the reason why his return is so welcome.
Ranked among few all time best third basemen, his appearance for the Braves in his career’s last season will be an extreme fascination for fans.
One of their newly signed relief pitchers, Livan Hernandez also had his first time on the mound. Hernandez was released by Houston Astros and he will lurk outside any club if Braves had not clinched a one year Major League deal with him.
As he threw one scoreless inning in the game, he will leave management thinking seriously over his impact on the side with couple more such performances.
Braves will be starting their season opening game against New York Mets. As both sides had fairly forgettable Spring Training and the fact they went on to pick up some momentum at the end, the clash will be worth the watch.
