Atlanta Braves gradually improve batting average with runners in scoring position - MLB Update
Atlanta Braves has been one of the worst teams as far as the batting average with runners in scoring position is concerned. They maintain second position on the National League East Division table. Yet their batters have disappointed them more often than
not when it comes to striking hits with runners in scoring position.
However, in the last couple of matches, they have shown improvements in this regard. Their batters that otherwise are known for missing at-bats during crucial moments have struck home-runs.
Martin Prado, the infielder, recently connected timely hits and saved the Braves from losing.
While the Braves have recorded great number of wins in the season, frequently it was the result of stand-out shows from a single player. For example most of their batters are capable of striking home-runs and when they slammed them they put a substantial
total on the scoreboard to win as a result.
Very rarely it happened for them that base-runners waited the occurrence of hits and actually saw them coming off and then reaching home plate.
It will be encouraging for Atlanta’s manager Fredi Gonzalez as he sees players stepping up more often now with the runners in scoring position. In light of the impending post-season, his optimism will increase about his team’s success ahead.
In the face of crucial games, every club aims to fix all the possible loop-holes in their side and make sure they enter the field with confidence. Weakness in any department of the play can prove costly because competitive matches witness every club fully
prepared which means the slightest mistakes becomes the cause of their downfall.
In this respect, Braves will be looking to increase their batting average from now onward and ascertain that the decline they experienced earlier in this regard does not appear again.
Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez points out the importance of big hits when the batters are standing at base.
"Big hits are what's going to make it the easiest way to get it done this time of year," manager Fredi Gonzalez said recently. "It's not always going to happen, but most definitely when you're able to tie the game with a two-run homer, it puts a lot of pressure
on the other team to try to answer back."
Recently the Braves handed a crushing sweep to the Washington Nationals. This has given the team immense confidence as beating the table leader is not easy.
Gonzalez is extremely pleased with the thumping success against such a formidable opposition. However he is happier with the triumphs against the Miami Marlins because they have come due to the hits by the batters during runners in scoring position.
It will be interesting to see how the Braves perform in this regard in the matches ahead.
