Atlanta Braves had improved during the 2012 season-MLB Update
As the year comes to an end, it is fascinating for the fans to recall a remarkable 2012 season expedition by the Atlanta Braves.
Certainly, the Braves had an improved 2012 season after they collapsed in 2011.
They were one of the most successful teams of the National League East Division during the last season.
Alongside the Washington Nationals, they dominated the division, keeping the rest of the competitors far away from challenging them.
The Braves made it to the playoffs, after performing incredibly well in the regular season.
Even some predicted that they will win the division title, because Atlanta became more consistent at the end of the regular season.
Despite qualifying for the post-season, they could not achieve anything substantial from there.
Losing to the St. Louis Cardinals in the one-game playoff, they headed back home immediately after winning the post-season spot.
Eventual failure to proceed further does not mean the Braves experienced nothing special in the season to be proud of.
Their third baseman, Chipper Jones hammered home runs, and made the last season of his career special.
Similarly, they posted lengthy winning streaks and beat the formidable oppositions time-and-again.
The Philadelphia Phillies were outclassed by the Braves over and over again during the season.
Considering the fact the Phillies were nearly invincible for the last five years, it was a tremendous achievement of Atlanta.
Manager for the Braves, Fredi Gonzalez, has highlighted improvements of the team from 2011.
He has appreciated the way the players put aside miserable memories of the 2011 season and achieved amazing success in 2012.
“There were a lot of questions asked about the collapse, and they used every adjective to describe the last month of 2011," Gonzalez said. "I'm so proud of [the players]. Pretty much the same team came back in 2012. I think it was a club that learned collectively
from top to bottom, from me to the last guy on that roster, that it couldn't happen again. And we did it. We did not let it happen. We went out and built on it and had a pretty good season."
Next year is a challenge before the Braves to stay afloat and win a place in the playoffs once again.
It will be interesting to see how they meet it.
