Atlanta Braves humiliate Miami Marlins 7-0 as Brandon Beachy throws perfect innings - MLB Update
Brandon Beachy shut-out the Miami Marlins and helped the Atlanta Braves to a thumping 7-0 victory at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia on May 17, 2012 in second game of the two match series.
Starter complements perfection and puts the Braves on top of the National League East Division. Area which was appearing as sole loophole with the Braves has been bridged by Beachy, at least for a while.
Braves’ offence was as great as it has been from day one in the season. With 12 hits in 34 at-bats, it further substantiates the Braves’ distinction of having greatest number of scores made in their Division.
First baseman Freddie Freeman flew a homer and set his slugging percentage at .500, highest in the line-up. He struck one hit in four at-bats and completed two runs while adding one RBI.
Fredi Gonzalez, the Braves’ manager was cheerful after witnessing a rare shut-out game being thrown by one of their starters.
As Beachy was breezing through innings, consciousness about possible stretch in his arms was there. It culminated when he finished eight innings.
Manager started consulting with pitching Coach Roger McDowell as to whether he should allow him to go for a shut-out game or call him back.
''Roger and I were hanging on every pitch,'' Gonzalez said. ''You want the kid to be successful. You want him to have the complete game. You want him to have the shutout, but you want to keep him healthy.''
Ricky Nolasco has been near-perfect for the Marlins as starter. Perhaps, the Braves’ offence was too strong as he gave in. He gave up a home-run and seven hits as he struck-out just two.
However the Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen believes that he was not as bad as scores he conceded may suggest.
''He threw better than what he showed,'' said Guillen. ''That's what I hate about the National League; you have to take the pitcher out for offense.''
Manager withdrew Nolasco after four innings and put relief pitcher Chad Gaudin on the mound. Much to his disappointment, he proved even worse. In just two innings, he allowed three runs.
The Marlins are having a terrible time in the season. Unless their offence lives up to its potential, they will keep suffering long-losing streaks.
