Atlanta Braves humiliated by Toronto Blue Jays 4-12 as Livan Hernandez leaks runs - MLB Update
Relief pitcher Livan Hernandez crumbles on the mound as the Atlanta Braves are trounced 4-12 by the Toronto Blue Jays at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia on June 10, 2012 during the last game of the three match series.
Braves boast one of the best bullpens in the season. Their relievers have rescued them and have recorded wins on a number of occasions. However, against the Blue Jays, their frailties are exposed.
Hernandez lent himself for exploitation. In little more than two innings, five runs were fetched from his throws.
Worse part was the fact that he was sent to control the damage after starter Julio Teheran endured a rough up. Instead of bringing the Braves back into the game, he let the Blue Jays reach unassailability.
Teheran had a fairly forgettable time. He was scratched immediately after throwing little more than four innings. Though he struck-out five, four earned runs were also given up by him.
Third-baseman Chipper Jones failed to unleash the fireworks he is known for. He missed three at-bats and let the Braves meet doom in the game.
Third baseman for the Blue Jays, Brett Lawrie, rendered heavy blow to the Braves. Facing five at-bats, he contributed three RBIs and brought two hits.
Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez praised the Blue Jays’ batters. He was impressed by the way Hernandez was decimated and how his quality throws were belittled with home runs coming off them.
''He's not going to spook in that situation,'' Gonzalez said. ''And they got him. Got to tip your cap to the Toronto Blue Jays.''
Teheran discussed his misery after the game. He maintains that his penchant for experiencing win got him off balance and led to a humiliating show on the mound.
"I got a little bit too excited because I wanted to win the game," Teheran said. "I got a little out of control."I'll try to be better for the next one."
Flat downslide the Braves’ offence went through on Sunday might demoralise the players.
Their offence has dominated right throughout the season and has been part and parcel of high scoring games coming off in the National League.
Therefore, they will like to take Sunday’s game as an exception and will be looking forward to see the offence rebounding soon.
