Atlanta Braves level series with 3-1 victory over Chicago Cubs – MLB Update
Dan Uggla put in a tremendous performance as the Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1 in their second game of three match series at Wrigley Field, Chicago, on May 8, 2012.
"I was just trying to get something in the air towards the middle of the field and it ended up finding a hole," Uggla said. "That's what we needed."
Kerry Wood struggled in the game as he was suffering from right shoulder fatigue for the last three weeks. He just came back into the team this Thursday from the disabled list.
Ryan Dempster pitched superbly. He threw seven innings and gave up only a single score over six hits. He also managed to strike-out seven players in seven inning spell. That was one great performance but the Cubs could not make the most out of it.
"I just try to execute my pitches and control the innings," he said. "The other stuff you can't worry about. You can only control one thing when you're on the mound and that's trying to put the ball where you want to put it. If you do that, more often than
not, you'll get good results. The more good results you get, the more wins you'll get."
Randall Delgado, starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves gave up one score over three hits in five innings.
The score board ticked for the first time in the fifth inning when Tyler Pastornicky got a sacrifice hit to right allowing Jason Heyward to come to the home plate. Cubs made their come back in the sixth inning when Alfonso Soriano doubled deep to right and
Tony Campana scoring a run to level the score board. Then in the ninth it was Dan Uggla’s double that mattered and snatched the victory for his team.
The series is now level as both teams will be looking to put in a good performance and take the victory. It will be interesting to see how the Cubs manage to bounce back from their dismal performance and try for a series win. The Braves will be looking to
carry their winning momentum forward in the next game.
