Atlanta Braves lose 0-3 to New York Yankees as Randall Delgado leaks runs - MLB Update
Against the New York Yankees, the starter Randall Delgado struggles, costing the Atlanta Braves 0-3 defeat at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia on June 11, 2012 in first game of the three match series.
Delgado is roughed up by quality batters. Five innings he threw led to three runs and those eventually resulted in the defeat, as the Braves fared little resistance from the other end.
He struck out five and gave up one home run. Worst part of his outing was six walks he allowed.
The Braves’ relievers showed resilience. The Yankees, who are known for exploiting relief pitchers to maximum, came across impeccable throws and found little chance to enhance their lead.
Jonny Venters did the closing job for Atlanta and was scoreless. All this was rendered useless by their offence, which failed to stand up against the Yankees’ pitchers.
Although, their offence has toppled big-wigs in the season and has not even spared the Washington Nationals’ powerful arms at-times, against the Yankees it was mediocre.
Third-baseman Chipper Jones sees a decline in batting average to .299. He has not embraced his best as yet, after coming off the disabled list. His existence in the line-up holds immense significance to the Braves’ offence.
Yankees’ starter, Ivan Nova hardened life for the Braves’ offence. He struck out six and did not give up any run in seven innings. When he quit the mound, Atlanta had the best chance to bounce back.
However, there were no freebies on offer as relievers proved just equally good.
Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez talked of Delgado. For a young pitcher, throwing against the side like the Yankees was great moment and getting under-pressure therefore was obvious.
Delgado was keen to stand out and in the process of over trying he derailed from the real path, the manager stated.
"He was excited," Gonzalez said. "He was coming out of his delivery, first time facing the New York Yankees and (42,669) in the stands. I think he got himself a little amped up for today's game."
Losing first game has made it compulsory for Atlanta to win next match to keep themselves alive in the series.
They will be working out issues with offence and will be hoping that their starter steps up in upcoming games.
