Atlanta Braves might offer Jair Jurrjens for Eduardo Nunez – MLB Update
The offseason market is picking up pace and it seems as if it is the Atlanta Braves who are now ready to test waters this time. The Braves have shown an interest in New York Yankees’ Eduardo Nunez and the team is willing to trade pitcher Jair Jurrjens as
a replacement, posing a deal that might become difficult to resist for the Yankees.
The Yankees were brilliant in the offence this past season, as they have always been, but pitching was one grey area where the team will want to improve next season. Right after being eliminated from the American League Division Series, the management made
it clear that an overhaul needs to be done in the bull-pen. General Manager Brian Cashman did well to retain ace CC Sabathia by offering him a lucrative long-term contract, but he now needs to get more quality pitchers onboard who will play a vital role in
assisting Sabathia.
Nunez gained recognition this past season for his aggressive intent against top-quality pitching oppositions. He played at third base for the Yankees in Alex Rodriguez’s absence, showing his versatility to play at any position. Not only did he impose his
authority on the offensive front, Nunez’s glove-work was commendable as well and the Yankees will not find it easy in deciding his fate this early.
Nevertheless, the situation demands a pitcher for the Yankees and getting Jurrjens will be a good option, even if it takes a sacrifice. Adding Jurrjens in the mix will mean added variety for the Yankees and a shoulder to share Sabathia’s workload. New York’s
ace was a master-act during the regular season, but pressure took the better of him in the postseason, where he failed to make his mark and the Yankees crashed out as early as the first stage of the playoffs.
The Braves have a lot of pitching options in their ranks and need to improve on the offensive front, thus the desire for Nunez. Although the Braves are demanding a hefty price for their starter, it is expected to come to normalcy once serious negotiations
get underway. However, both teams are yet to show a serous concern on this matter.
