Atlanta Braves outclass Miami Marlins 6-1 as Chipper Jones leads the offence - MLB Update
The right fielder Jason Heyward and the third baseman Chipper Jones lead the Atlanta Braves to a comprehensive 6-1 victory against the Miami Marlins at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia on August 2, 2012 in the last game of the four match series.
It took the first two innings for the Braves to surge to a lead, which proved too much for Marlins in the end. By adding three runs in the first and the second inning each, Atlanta rose to a substantial lead.
Meanwhile, the Braves’ relievers did an excellent job late in the innings. Whatever attempt Miami tried to make to come back into the game was put to halt by their relievers.
Atlanta's starter Mike Minor threw just little more than three innings. Therefore, the bullpen was to be exposed early. In this context, the Marlins had the opportunity to latch on the vulnerability of the relievers and produce runs out of their throws.
Much to their disappointment, they were unable to come even close to the lead, let alone blowing it.
Offensively, Jones stood up for the Braves, striking two hits in four at-bats on Thursday. He added two RBIs. Similarly, their right fielder Heyward, who continued his incredible run of form in the season, hammered three hits in five at-bats.
As far as the Marlins’ pitchers were concerned, their starter Nate Eovaldi was scratched from the mound after just two innings. He leaked six runs while allowing eight hits in the game. He became the real undoing of the team on Thursday.
"They really just sat on the fastball, even the ones I located, and they hit it well," Eovaldi said. "It was just one of those nights."
Meanwhile, Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen comes out praising the relief pitcher Chad Gaudin, saying he controlled the proceedings well after their starter unsettled the whole team by surrendering on the mound.
"Once again Gaudin went out there and pitched well for us," Guillen said. "The bullpen didn't let them score any runs. Great job. I didn't think we were going to make it but those guys, they saved our bullpen."
With the victory, the Braves can rest assured now that their second position on the table will remain intact until something miraculous happens for the rest of the teams in the Division.
They will be trying to keep their focus right and continue winning games in the season now.
