Atlanta Braves outclass Washington Nationals 5-1 as Kris Medlen throws seven scoreless innings-MLB
Starter Kris Medlen completes seven scoreless innings as the Atlanta Braves rout the Washington Nationals 5-1 at Nationals Park, Washington, D.C. on August 22, 2012 in the last game of their three match series.
Medlen struck-out seven. Outwitting the Nationals’ batters that are known for roughing up the pitchers and slamming home-runs shows something about the way he pitched on Wednesday.
Kris remained scoreless throughout the match. Therefore, for as long as he was on the mound the Nationals were not allowed to blow the lead that the Braves maintained.
As far as Atlanta’s offence was concerned, left fielder Martin Prado struck two hits in four at-bats while he contributed two RBIs. Furthermore, their right fielder Jason Heyward was 2-for-4 on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Medlen is ecstatic after living up to the challenge which was thrown toward him by his manager Fredi Gonzalez. The fact the game was extremely important to keep the Nationals from substantiating their winning-streak has made Medlen extremely happy
now as he played a major role in the victory.
"Yes, I guess you can call it the biggest game of my career just because we needed a stop and I was up to the challenge, and I just tried to challenge the hitters," Medlen said.
Braves’ third baseman Chipper Jones believes the victory on Wednesday will go a long way in helping the team gains momentum and performs well in the upcoming games.
"If nothing else, we get a chance to just go, `Phew," said Chipper Jones. "You know, take a deep breath and a win like this kind of rejuvenates us.”
Beating the Nationals will give the Braves a lot of confidence. As the series has concluded now, they can use it against the opponents in the upcoming games and earn victories.
The greatest positive that came about in the game for the Braves was the impressive spell of seven innings thrown by their starter. The team officials will be content now as they can look forward to better shows from him in the play-offs.
Meanwhile, Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez will like to see the rest of the starters on rotation taking inspiration from Medlen and winning matches for the club.
