Atlanta Braves outfielder Matt Diaz out for season – MLB News
Atlanta Braves’ outfielder Matt Diaz is out for rest of the season due to his potential right thumb surgery.
Some two days ago, Braves’ inside sources speculated that Diaz will be making a potential comeback in few months time as he recovering quickly from his thumb soreness.
While later on Monday afternoon, the Braves’ announced that team’s hand specialist Dr. Gary Lourie will be performing a surgery on Diaz’s right thumb which means, his season is very much over.
“I’ve known for a while, but we’ve given it pretty much every way to rest possible, The hole is just not closing up. It’s still a hard callous in there, and it still hurts like crazy on the nerve. So they’re going to go in and look at the nerve, take the
little foreign bodies out, and have me ready to have a full offseason,” Diaz said and explained about his current situation.
Diaz added, “I felt it was going that way because it just wasn’t feeling good, Surprisingly a sense of peace overcame me and just kind of ‘At least we’re taking care of it.”
According to experts, these types of surgeries always take some time to heal fully and in Diaz’s case too, some two to three months are required effectively for him to swing a bat at full speed.
Diaz, who had been injured before and underwent a procedure on the same area, knows how critical his second operation will be.
On 21st July, the Atlanta Braves placed Diaz on disabled list due to his extra soreness on right thumb as he was in extreme pain while later an MRI revealed that he needs surgery which will remove two small foreign bodies in his thumb as they
are the main cause of his consistent pain.
Before getting injured, Braves outfielder Diaz was hitting with .222 average along with two homers, 13 RBIs and .280 OBP.
He is considered one of the best players in the Braves roster as his overall career .291 hitting, 45 homers, 225 RBIs and .330 OBP also makes him a good all round player.
