Atlanta Braves’ outfielder Michael Bourn not getting contract extension – MLB News
Former Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies ace Michael Bourn is seeking a contract extension since he has come-out in the Atlanta Braves’ roster. Though he might have received a potential extension but the Braves seem busy in more important things and are not putting any extra effort on his extension argument.
Last July, when Bourn traded into the Braves, there were certain possibilities as he surely will get an extension next year, but still nothing has happened regarding his late desire. During the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Camps in Arizona, once again some reporters took-up Bourn’s extension issue and started asking questions from him.
Michael Bourn on the other hand, gave sensible and optimistic answers and also related his extension talks with his performance in upcoming season.
Bourn said explaining every possible matter, “Playing and getting ready for the season is pretty much all I’m focused on. You know is pretty good at his craft so we’ll see. I’ve got to take care of my business first, though. I feel like we have a real good team. I felt like we had a real good team last year. I didn’t feel like anything was wrong with our team, we just had some breaks, had a couple of injuries… I’ve never been on a team where the pitching is that deep, where you have six or seven starters that really can start anywhere.”
Apart from Bourn’s extension talks, everything else is looking in good spirit. His game and fitness during Spring Training is visible as he is hitting with full flair. Last season, Bourn’s breakout year, he performed relatively consistent. Starting the season with the Astros and finishing with the Braves, he went with batting average of .294 along with two home-runs, 50 RBIs and .349 OBP.
Bourn has also a very good career batting average of .271 along with 13 homers, 158 RBIs and consistent .336 OBP. Seeing his five year career and past season’s performance, experts believe that he can be a productive player for the Braves in the long run as well.
