Atlanta Braves outshine Florida Marlins 7-1 to level series – MLB Update
The Atlanta Braves extended their lead to 4.5 games in the Wild Card standings after a 7-1 hammering of the Florida Marlins on Tuesday, September 13 in the second game of the three-game series at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia to level the series at 1-1.
The Braves lost to the Marlins on Monday, September 12 but made a strong comeback to shun talks about a dip in form and a chance to slip in the standings. Brian McCann was central to Atlanta’s win, going 2-for-4 and producing a gigantic three-run home-run
to give the home side an added advantage in the sixth inning. The bull-pen showed composure as well and did enough to restrict the Marlins to just a solitary run in their quota of nine innings.
Marlins broke the deadlock in the fifth inning when Donnie Murphy added the first run for the night to ignite the game. Mike Minor made a solid start for the Braves and did well to restrict the Marlins to just one-run in his spell of 5.2 innings, striking-out
five batters in the process. However, he was unlucky not to get a decision for his precision from the mound.
Peter Moylan came to relieve Minor and threw just seven pitches to complete the sixth inning. Nonetheless, his performance was enough to give him his second win of the season.
The Braves were marginally beaten in the first game of the series but McCann and Dan Uggla showed their hitting ability in this game to reiterate their aptitude for the playoffs. Uggla and Matt Diaz scored from McCann’s home-run to give the Braves a two-run
advantage over the visitors before Uggla replicated the effort in the seventh inning to extend the lead to five-runs. Chipper Jones and Freddie Freeman circled the bases on Uggla’s hit.
Brad Hand spilled an excellent start to lose his seventh game of the season. He had kept the Braves at bay till the fifth inning but ended up being charged for three runs in 5.1 innings to allow his ERA cross the 4.00 barrier.
Alex Gonzalez added the seventh run for the Braves in the eighth inning to complete a comprehensive win over Florida.
