Atlanta Braves pay tribute to Chipper Jones in a pre-game ceremony at Turner Field – MLB Update
In his last home series, third baseman Chipper Jones has been paid homage with a ceremony held by Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.
Third base in the game saw his name written which was visible vividly from every corner of the stadium. Apart from this, various other actions were carried out by the Braves in order to make Jones feel special. Videos featuring Jones and his contributions
to baseball over the years were shown between innings. The number of his shirt was exhibited on the grass at centre field.
Jones during the ceremony was completely overcome by emotion. He was without words to explain the extent of his happiness. Watching the present Hall of Fame Hank Aaron acknowledging him during the ceremony was a great moment for Jones.
Chipper is relishing his last season in the Major League. So far he has managed to make it worth recollecting after years from now on showing splendid performances at the plate. Along with the rest of the players of Atlanta, he has helped the club clinch
the playoff spot.
Even at the age of 40, he remains a stand out performer when it comes to the offence of the team. He leads almost every category of the offence for the Braves.
It is a dream for every player to retire on a high. Certainly Jones is going to experience this as he still is capable of batting successfully, like always.
Jones, while expressing his views about the club has termed the Braves a great organisation to play for. The fact the Braves have not changed managers frequently shows that they are established in terms of their structure.
"In 19 years, I've played under two managers and two general managers," Jones said. "Not too many organizations can boast of that over a two-decade period. That just shows you how solid this organization is from top to bottom."
Jones will be eyeing on the post-season, regardless of the respect and honour he has earned. He will be looking to keep lifting the Braves with his uncanny ability to slam hits. It will be interesting to see how he plays in the playoffs.
