Atlanta Braves’ pitcher Kris Medlen throws first session after Tommy John Surgery – MLB Update
Things looked good for Kris Medlen, who is back from surgery to throw his first session with the Atlanta Braves in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The player, who has been recuperating from Tommy John Surgery, is happy about the decision that allowed him to grip
the ball for the first time since his procedure in August, 2010.
Medlen has been inactive this spring and his focus has mainly been on getting through the eventless period without having to over work and to avoid any type of frustration. The player was told to throw just 15 deliveries with his throwing arm at half the
effort. As hard as it would have been, Medlen got through the event without a problem, though he was frustratingly eager to do more.
"It was 15 throws yesterday and it's 20 throws today," Medlen said Thursday afternoon. "So it's still going to feel like nothing."
The player has been limited to his role in baseball, but he has been spending his time away from the attention, enjoying his recuperating with his fishing friend, Peter Moylan. The player has continued to knock some heads in the clubhouse with his comedic
style, as the players in his presence have taken a lighter path on making fun of him, in reference to Moylan and him sharing a place of residence.
"We get made fun of for having a roommate, but all the other guys have roommates," Medlen said. "It's just that it's their wives and they're not allowed doing things on their own. We don't have to ask permission to do anything. So they really can't make
fun of us for that."
The Braves are doing well in Spring Training and even though the competition seems stiff in the Major League Baseball National League East Division, the club is looking for a major role in this year’s season. The club management is looking to move their
players into the mix for a higher standing in the post-season. The focus, like all the other teams, is mainly to go into the World Series this year.
